What Your Kids Can Teach You: National Youth Week Reflections
¡°If we could all see the world through the eyes of
a child, we would see the magic in everything¡± -
Chee Vai Tang.
To mark National Youth Week, it¡¯s time to step out of the mind of an adult and into
the eyes of a child.
In celebrating the achievements, vitality and strength of young
people, we reflect on the energy our kids¡¯ perspectives can give us.
POSITIVITY
Have you ever had a lightbulb moment, listening to your kids and their take on the
world? Sometimes the stresses of work and life can make unintentional pessimists
out of the best of us, but kids tend to be able to see a positive side to every
story. It can
stop us in our tracks and make us see the light. Being caught in the
rain is exciting because it means our garden will grow. Spilling milk on the tiles
is great because ¡°at least it wasn¡¯t on the carpet.¡± Power outages are fun because
we can tell stories by torchlight.
Deliberately making an effort to look at life in this way can help you train your
brain to see the good in every situation naturally, and become a happier, more positive
person for this.
IMAGINATION
Ever wondered how kids can keep entertained for hours on end at a seemingly simple
pastime? Imagination goes a long way.
To you, your Springfree Trampoline is a great, safe trampoline.
But to your kids,
with their imagination, it¡¯s all this and more. Their Springfree is a basketball
stadium, with the crowd waiting to go wild as they slam-dunk. It¡¯s an Olympic arena
and they¡¯re about to win the high-jump. It¡¯s a cloud floating up high, so soft and
bouncy. It¡¯s a pirate ship, sailing along.
Take the time out this week to let yourself enter this zone with your kids. Don¡¯t
be afraid to be silly, to laugh, to imagine. Surprise them by being the voice of
the commentator as you go to slam-dunk. You¡¯ll find yourself laughing and entertained
for hours.
ENERGY
Embracing life and every day with vigour, energy and happiness gives our kids an
endless stream of energy. They can jump on their Springfree for hours and still
have energy, where as adults we can be huffing and puffing after 10 minutes. The
great news is that we can learn from our kids. Apply the same happiness, and push
for the same relentless energy, enjoying the feeling of each bounce, and time will
fly before you realise
you¡¯ve done a great workout.
